The Cabrach – 21st century clearances

A once well-inhabited area of rural Moray that provided little short of 1000 of its young men to that great slaughter, the Great War, has largely lost its population due to the aforesaid war, economic hardship and the actions of lairds. Roughly ten miles by eight miles it can be a bleak place in winter but stunningly beautiful when the sun beats down on its abandoned fields and tumbledown homes where talk was once of farming and whisky distilling. It sits on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park connecting Speyside with Donside.
