Bay of Nigg and Torry Battery, Aberdeen

With its prominence over the bay this coastal lookout has been used to spy out enemies for many centuries. It was also a place where pirates were executed.

What remains is the 19thC structure which housed several heavy guns as well as volunteers from the 1st Aberdeenshire Royal Garrison Artillery.

At the end of World War II the Battery was used to house families who had nowhere else to live. Today it is a place where people go to watch dolphins and seals in Aberdeen harbour and bay.
